The best thing a human being can do is to help another human being know more.
—Charlie Munger
Echoing the wisdom of Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger, who urged us to "Associate with people better than you," and to “help another human being know more“, we've always understood the power of meaningful connections. We’ve dedicated ourselves to nurturing strong relationships with media and non-profit organizations, guided by the belief that our success is measured by the quality of our connections—and whether those we care about, care about us back. Our purpose is to be a positive and useful connection for the communities we belong to.

Kimberly, founder of Ferghanat, was invited to lecture for the Yale Sinovation Fellows Program, where she provided a comprehensive overview of the U.S. capital markets to a group of Chinese entrepreneurs. Her session covered key aspects of the IPO process, from private fundraising to public market valuation, while also demystifying the regulatory landscape. Drawing from her Wall Street experience, she led an engaging cross-cultural dialogue on the spirit of innovation that underpins the American business ecosystem—offering both structural insights and cultural context on how companies scale and thrive in the U.S.
The Yale Sinovation Fellows program is a one-and-a-half-year international learning and networking experience open to China’s most senior, most accomplished business leaders. Kimberly met with Ms. Len Kawahara, the founder of the high-end Japanese skincare brand, SOPHISTANCE, to mark its U.S. debut through Mitsui & Co.
Rooted in Japan's beauty traditions, SOPHISTANCE products blend fermentation techniques with advanced anti-aging technology to promote healthy, radiant skin. The brand's inspiration comes from a traditional Japanese recipe once used by the legendary artist Katsushika Hokusai. After discovering the recipe, Ms. Kawahara partnered with a skilled brewer to create a unique fermentation base, which is manually aged for over 45,000 hours. This process resulted in the brand's proprietary HACCO method, a fermentation technique designed to amplify the potency of natural ingredients.
Kimberly greeted Len with souvenirs from New York, celebrating Sophistance's official debut in the U.S. market. The two had connected three years earlier, before the brand's launch in the U.S.
During their conversation, Kimberly and Len discussed the concept and potential market of fermentation skincare. Len is a renowned writer who penned the screenplay for "Hokusai," a 2020 film about the legendary Japanese artist. The movie featured an impressive cast, including Yūya Tagira (the youngest winner of Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival) and Min Tanaka (Best Actor at the Japan Academy Prize). It was Len's creative mind, influenced by the film's subject, that led her to discover a unique formula for skincare from Hokusai's legacy.
Len's conversation about the brand concept and the U.S. beauty market took place with Gabriella Yankovich, a trained cosmetic scientist and senior sales marketing manager at Mitsui & Co. (USA). During their discussion, Ms. Yankovich highlighted Mitsui's unique training approach: professionals are sent on trips to Japan to talk with brand founders and chemists, providing them with a hands-on, in-depth understanding of the brands in the company's portfolio.
